Working as a Dive Instructor in Spain — Why Tenerife is ideal for your IDC

Turning your diving passion into a career? Doing your IDC in Tenerife gives you year-round training conditions, steady tourism and strong job prospects.

Best areas to work

The Canary Islands, especially Tenerife, offer 12-month diving with water temperatures between 19°C and 24°C and consistently good visibility — perfect for steady work.

Qualifications needed

To work as an instructor in Spain you must complete an Instructor Development Course (IDC) and pass the Instructor Examination (IE). A medical statement and professional insurance are required; some employment types may also require local documentation (NIE).

Instructor Examination (IE) dates

Tenerife runs 4 IE sessions per year: February, May, September, December. Plan ahead to align your IDC with the IE you prefer.

Salary expectations & work opportunities

Instructor earnings depend on location, experience and language skills. In Tenerife, multilingual instructors are highly employable. Many combine salary with commissions, private guiding and tips.

Why doing your IDC in Tenerife matters

  • Local dive site knowledge
  • Networking with dive centers
  • Training in real working conditions
  • Possible immediate job opportunities

Free accommodation (book early)

If you book your IDC early we offer free accommodation during the course. This is an excellent saving and makes Tenerife one of the most cost-effective places to become a PADI Instructor.
